Persons holding a driving licence issued in a country outside the European Union or the European Economic Area can apply to exchange their driving licence for a European Driving Licence, the so-called “EU”.
The exchange of a driving licence to the EU is voluntary and can take place through a simplified procedure, without the need to pass a theoretical and practical examination. The condition for the exchange of a driving license to the EU is to have a permanent or temporary residence in Poland and the validity of the driving license.
To exchange your driving licence for the EU, you must go to the appropriate authority, i.e. the Provincial Traffic Centre or the city office. You must apply for a replacement driver’s license, which states m.in. personal data, place and date of issue of the driving license, as well as its validity period. The application must be accompanied by documents confirming residence in Poland, as well as a current driver’s license with a translation into polish, if required.
If no decision is taken within three months of the application, the replacement of the driving licence shall be deemed to have been made. However, if the investigating authority considers that it is not possible to exchange the driving licence, it shall issue a negative decision and shall be entitled to appeal driving
